Victor Ashe was a four-term mayor (1988-2003) of Knoxville. Growing up in Knoxville, Mr. Ashe received a BA from Yale University and a JD from the University of Tennessee Law School. He was elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives in 1968 when he was only 23 years old serving for 6 years, and he served for 9 years in the State Senate. As Mayor, Ashe stressed diversity within his administration; parks and greenways were another highlight of his tenure. In 2004 Ashe was appointed U.S. Ambassador to Poland by then President George W. Bush and continued to serve under President Barack Obama until 2009. Active in many areas of civic life, Victor has been a friend of the Jewish Community of Knoxville for his entire career. His talk today will center on Poland's role in the world today along with the Holocaust.
