Faculty Lecture Series:

Brian Berkowitz- Professor Earth and Planetary Sciences, the Weizmann Institute, Rehovot, Israel

Lecture Topic: “Water Everywhere: Is There Enough to Drink?”.

Arguably, fresh water is becoming our most valuable commodity. Where once we could expect to turn on the tap and receive a never-ending supply of fresh, clean, safe water — climate and contamination are threatening to upend this reliability. Prof. Brian Berkowitz’s research centers around the experimental analysis and computer modeling of fluid and chemical transport with particular emphasis on groundwater systems. He and his colleagues are developing methods for environmentally-friendly treatment of contaminated water and industrial contaminants.

Prof. Berkowitz who was born in Canada, received his BSc and MSc degrees in Applied Mathematics in 1980 and 1982, respectively, from the University of Alberta. He completed his DSc at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. He joined the faculty of the Weizmann Institute in 1993.
