11:30 a.m. - Geniza Ceremony - Old Jewish Cemetery

11:30AM - 12:30PM

Old Jewish Cemetery Corner of Linden Avenue & Winona Street
Knoxville, TN

A geniza is a closet or a box where congregations collect used papers and ritual objects that are considered sacred. Periodically the material in the geniza is gathered solemnly and buried in the cemetery.  Those who attend are welcome to bring their own materials to this special interment.  According to Rabbi Alon Ferency, appropriate materials also include the tzitzit, but not the entire tallit. Photocopies of texts are not included.
